At some point in a skater's STARskate programme s/he will need to begin working with a private coach. Usually private lessons are 15min in length and each coach has a specific rate that they charge. For more information on coaches and their rates, click on the coaches tab above.
We are blessed at the Barrie Skating Club to have many different coaches who are all well qualified, experienced and warm, caring coaches. An important key in choosing a coach is to find one whose style meshes best with your skater's temerment. Here are some suggestions for finding a good coaching match:
◾talk to your skater - they will have had the opportunity to work with a variety of coaches in their CanSkate program. What coach did they particularly enjoy working with in that setting? (Keep in min that there are many other BSC coaches that don't work with the CanSkate program, so you may want to consider other coaches as well).
◾talk to other parents whose skater works with a private coach. Ask specific question about the coach's style and how their skater learns (is it the same as your skater?) Think about what qualities are most important to you in a coach
◾watch the coaches in action at the rink. Observe how they work with their skaters. Are you, as a parent, happy with the way the coach interacts with their skaters and will this type of interaction be successful with your child?
◾feel free to contact the coaches and ask them any questions you may have.
